St James Shell

This scallop is found on soft bottoms and feeds on plankton. It moves by jumping forward and its growth history can be determined by looking at the well-marked concentric lines on its valves. Fishing is regulated in order to maintain stock levels and restocking operations take place from hatchery shells.
