Gilt-head Bream
SPARUS AURATA
This coastal fish is prized for its flesh and is now farmed. A hermaphrodite, it is born male and becomes female at the age of three years. It is omnivorous and feeds on algae, crustaceans, fish and molluscs, its powerful jaws being able to crush shells.
